Moving Past Failures- Life Beyond Our Mistakes
Everyone makes mistakes. Your mistakes should not prevent you from living a full and healthy life. Some people have serious issues moving past failures or even the tiniest mistake. While it may be necessary to seek professional help, there are some steps you can take to help yourself get moving past your failures. First, know that failures are normal. Pick someone you look up to and look at them clearly and honestly. Are they really perfect, or do you just perceive them that way? It is a guarantee that they have made mistakes too. Perhaps the better way to look at the situation is to think about how they handle their mistakes, rather than just assuming they never make one.
Next, be absolutely certain you give everything you do 100%. Do your best at whatever you find to do. This will allow you to look at any failure with the pride of knowing that you did your best, and that is the best you can do. Not doing your best makes moving past failures much more difficult, as you are faced with the taunting question of “what if?” Do not let this happen. It is so easy to avoid. If you do fail realize you did not do your best, commit to doing better next time and move on.
Take the time to think about big decisions. Life changing events such as changing jobs or getting married have the potential to go either way. Think carefully about how you will handle failure in a situation before hand. This is not asking for a self-fulfilling prophecy, but rather making yourself face the reality that you do not really know what will happen. If you decide it is worth the chance, move forward and never look back. If it fails, you will have already considered how to go about moving past failures in this situation.
Inspire yourself with positive thinking. If you are having trouble moving past failures, change your negative attitude toward positive thoughts. Think about the good you do rather than the times you fail. Put these at the forefront of your mind. It is also helpful to surround yourself with positive people. Friends and loved ones that can see and point out the good in you are priceless. Be careful to return the favor and not only go around when you are feeling down. This is very isolating and they may not be around when you need them.
